Default Replacing window felt f1 pickup

Bought the felt and clips from Dennis carpenter not entirely sure how to clamp the clips to the felt and even get them in the right spot inside the door. I do relize the window should be out. Is there a special crimping tool for the job? Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

Thanks Dave

I remember that there were clips that clamped onto the felt then fit into holes in the door. But only for the bottom of the window opening. I used a pair of pliers nothing fancy. The real problem tho is when you try to push the clips into the holes. The repro clips are crap and won't stay in the holes. I save them now out of old doors. There are small screws that hold the felt channels for the top and rear of the window opening.

Yeah, what gearhead says. The clips are absolute garbage and don't stay in the doors. I launched mine across the yard in a tirade of expletives and was too incensed to try to fix the situation.

Yep...those clips? I believe there are still a couple of them rattling inside my doors.
I got the clips aligned with he holes and took a slot screwdriver the width of the channel and placed the blade of a screwdriver in the channel, using a twisting motion pressed the clips into the holes. That worked pretty well.

Those felt kits with those clips are pure garbage! I used more expletive deletives on those things while trying to get them in the right places and to stay in the holes in the door. Nothing is the same as the originals, either in quality and being the same shape! I hope I never do another one ever again. Vintique is the one who makes these kits for everyone else. That should explain why they're crap.

The material is good but the clips are not. After several tries I too tossed mine and used 3M glue.

I went around and around with Dennis C's guy over my felts. They came to me (3 sets in a row) with the felt ruined on the curved bit near the back. They bend them after attaching the felt, and guess what, it rips. For clips I gave up on theirs (garbage) and bought Vintiques clips off eBay. They are darn near as good as OEM. Why they can't attach good clips in the correct locations at the factory is beyond me...

What 3m glue? They make quite a few.

My clips are holding, all except one I had to use wedges to get the clips to stay. I will get some of the 3M Marine epoxy and re-do them.

This is good info. I had been thinking it was something I was doing wrong. Sounds like the 3M stuff is the way to go.

Just used Vintiques clips and it's a night and day difference. They are a little tricky but they are much better than the ones that come with the anti rattle strips.

Thanks again everyone.

My felt kit came in a Vintiques box, even though I got it from LMC. I really hated the clips. This was 2 years ago. Maybe they have been improved.

I get the impression that the Vintiques clips that come in the kit are different than the clips they sell alone.
