Default GL-1 in 1950 Ford?

Hope someone knows answer to this...
I have a 1950 Ford Convertible with 3 standard speed. I want to change the transmission and rear end fluid. Is using 140 wt GL-1 oil ok?
Also, am considering putting in an original Borg overdrive unit from a donor car. Is the 140 wt GL-1 ok for this too?
Thanks for any help.

GL-1 was the origial lubricant for the older transmissions with white metal bushings inside. GL-4 or GL-5 is good for the rear axle since it is a Hypoid on the 49 & later cars. The overdrive uses GL-1 too. In cooler climates SAE 90 is good. In warmer or hot climates SAE 140 is the way to go. My old Mercury manual states to use a gear oil with mild EP on the transmission (GL-1) and Hypoid or Multi-Purpose EP (GL-4 in those days) for the rear axle. Both state SAE 80 for cold weather and SAE 90 for warmer weather. In more extreme heat states like Arizona and Texas the SAE 140 will stay in there better. They will leak with SAE 90 or less in the really hot times of year.
