Default Generator cut out

I am considering installing a voltage regulator and found one that looks like an original cut out. I can't seem to find one like the one installed on my generator. Here is a link to the one I am looking at.

The cutout or? on your car is aftermarket or from another make car---perhaps modified, the picture doesn't show enough detail of the cutout or wiring, does it have any markings?

I've had this voltage regulator on my A for nearly 2 years now. Couldn't be happier. Works great, looks stock. It will save fooling around with the third brush whenever you're going to drive at night, and will keep your battery charged nicely without cooking it. Before I installed mine, I set my generator output via the 3rd brush at 16 amps, then took off the old cutout and installed this regulator. Haven't touched it since. The nice thing about an external regulator is if it fails when I need it, I can just short across it and always get home. As stated above, the generator cutout or ??? that is on your car now is not standard from anything I've seen.

Old GM cars used a lot of rectangular shaped cutouts, and most or all would read "Delco-Remy".

The Macs regulator looks a lot like the "Fun Projects" regulator at the link below. Both look like the early '28 cutout, as shown in the first photo. Your car looks like a '30, but you can probably get a regulator in the correct can if you asked for it.

I have a Fun Projects voltage regulator in my Model A in place of the cutout for a number of years and it has performed very well. It even looks like the standard cutout and has the Ford script on it. Go for it.

I found that I do in fact have the Delco-Remy cutout. I appreciate the comments.

The Delco-Remy you have was used on early motorcycles H-d and Indian also it's hard to get nos ones repro ones are junk. I would go for the cut outs that are from the vendors.

How should the generator be set when installing a voltage regulator? I read somewhere on the Barn someone set his generator to charge at 16 amps before installing his voltage regulator.

I've sung the praises of the Fun Projects can style voltage regulator here for years. The six volt version has a maximum recommended amp rate setting of 15 amps. Set the third brush for a 15 amp charge . The 12 volt version recommends 8 amp charge but the guy that makes them said I could turn it up to 10 amps for brighter lights because it would never charge that high unless the demand required it. Twelve volts needs only half the amps of six volt to do the same job. The completely stock generator works better on 12 volts than it does on 6 with half the amperage draw. Fun Projects even has an 8 volt version just for grins and giggles. You simply set the third brush for the maximum amp charge recommended by the manufacturer. I don't know anything about the Delco Remi regulator but I feel that 15-16 amps max for 6 volts would be safe.
