Ah....MAYBE what I thought was going back to the firewall at upper left is actually just a big loop, slightly out of the picture, with the hose looped between bottom connection at firewall and the white valve. I promise I'll catch on to some of this old car stuff one of these days! DD

What he said. By the fifties, heaters had gotten a little more sophisticated than the earlier cars.

That hose goes into a valve on the upper left. Controls hot water flow from the engine. It’s kind of a bellows looking thing. More complicated than it had to be I think. When mine started leaking I put an “in-hose” control from a seventies F100. Just controls how much hot water goes into the heater core.....Mark
