30-31 Phaeton Reproduction Body
Does anyone make reproduction steel bodies for the 1930-1931 Model A Phaeton body style, either 2-door or 4-door? Or is this market limited to just the steel bodies for the 30-31 roadster rumble seat and roadster PU's due to their popularity with the hot-rodders?
Thanks Dave |

Re: 30-31 Phaeton Reproduction Body
Dave I don't think so, Brookville Roadster is the leading mfg. of old Ford bodies and I can't see where they are making a Phaeton. Just Roadsters, 28-32 Pickup, and '32 Three Window Coupes. We have a distributor near us and that is all I've seen in their catalogue.
Dynacorn builds pretty good steel bodies but in the Ford line, only first generation Mustangs. Good luck maybe someone else can chime in here. |

Back in the 80's Glassic made a 2 door pheaton kit type car. All fibreglass. I don't know of any steel body manufacturers. Good Luck. Jeff

Pickupman this I did not know. Probably the best route for Dave to pursue.

Re: 30-31 Phaeton Reproduction Body
Actually, Steve with Ahooga picked up a '31 Std. Phaeton body from me a year or so ago with the intention of reproducing the center section, rear section, rear doors and the sills. This would allow someone to use the Roadster cowl & doors already being manufactured to assemble a 35B body. Alternatively, I have gathered most of the drawings, samples, patterns, dies, etc. of the wood and sheetmetal to reproduce the 180A body. Unfortunately, the only thing I have not gathered is time.
As to the difference between the Roadsters and a Phaeton body being reproduced is, I doubt you would ever see the price of the Phaeton body rivaling the price of the Roadsters simply because of tooling costs. Dave I don't know what your intentions were by asking this but FWIW, I know where there are both styles of '31 Phaeton bodies that can be purchased if you or someone is in the market for either of an original body. |

Re: 30-31 Phaeton Reproduction Body
there was a guy from California that appeared at the Hershey meet back in the'80s that said he was working on a repro phaeton, either 2 or 4 door, I don't recall which. and he was also selling repro roadster doors. to my knowledge this was before Brookville. I bought 29 roadster doors from him and they did not fit because he did not allow for shrinkage in the stamping.

Re: 30-31 Phaeton Reproduction Body
Thee are no known reproductions of 180As now...
There are several restorable (I say that with pursed lips as "restorable" in terms of a 180A is a whole heck of a lot more work than any other Model A) bodies in storage...I can direct you to four right now. There was a Glassic repop that falls way short There was some folks trying to stamp 180A bodies out on the West Coast...California or Oregon...they were using a 55B subsils and cowl and it is an interesting car, but not a 180A. A real 180A with its "modern" coachwork is a thing go behold...kind of like the first modern cars with front wheel disc brakes... PM me if you want to now more. Swoff |

Re: 30-31 Phaeton Reproduction Body
there is a fella who is making the 180 deluxe. He builds them out of tudor bodies to original specs. He was just listed on the bay and his fee for the body only is 18k. pricey.
