I too am suspect of the last bid however I have fielded a bunch of telephone calls this week talking about the car so there have been many that have shown interest. Sadly, I was hoping the owner would have driven it more as everything has been restored on it mechanically. The other sad point for me is, I never drove it more than around the parking lot as we finished on Monday evening and loaded it into the trailer heading for Hershey. On Monday after Hershey that year, he stopped by the shop and we fixed a thing or two, and he drove it home and put it in his mini-museum where it has been ever since. Of that 8 miles on the odometer, most of that mileage was logged driving it to and from the show field that year. The balance has been a couple short jaunts around his neighborhood.

Well...it does take at least two people to get it that high--one to bid $99,400 and another to bid $99,500.

If I had that kind of money, I'd really like to spend it on a Brent Terry car.

The concrete in the background is grey, ...and my dad's workshirt is dark charcoal gray, and the quilts on the floor are light gray and the carpet under the axles are dark blue. Are those the colors you are seeing on your monitor??

If the guy "accidentally" entered $440,000 and the bid price jumped to $99,500 then the reserve must be $99,500. Looks to me like somebody was just trying to find out the reserve, or the seller had a buddy trying to find out how high the last bid was and didn't understand the bidding process....

I just have to add my two cents here.
Having restored two A's in my home shop that earned Henry Awards, I know what it takes in the way of hours to do one to the standards of this 400A. Many others too, not just me, Doug Clayton, Gary Karr, Gary Johnson, Marco Tahtaras, Ron Geer, John Alinder, on and on.
I'm telling you, that even if the $99,500 bid did not get retracted, that would not be a bad price to pay. While I did not keep track of the hours invested, (I really did not want to know) when paying a shop to do real high quality work like Brent's, it adds up real quick. It's easy to get 20 or more hours in block sanding one fender after the body work is done. It's easy to get 100 hundred hours in finishing the bare frame for a show car. It's real easy getting several hundred hours in finishing a set of original floor pans. A set of five wheels can easily take 60 to 80 hours. I could go on and on and on with examples. I'm not sure what amount of cash it would take to buy my Phaeton or Special Coupe, never seriously considered, but it would be way up there due to the amount of work it took to restore them! This doesn't include all of the time and effort to find those original parts rather than calling 1-800-repro. Not a knock against any person or style of restoration, just pointing out that this auction is nowhere near out of line with the investiment made in the restoration.
If the gavel falls below a hundred grand, the buyer got a deal on a rare Model A body style and a very high quality, fresh restoration.
Again, just my two cents worth of opinion.

If i may cut in ...I believe and almost sure this car was forsale and sold on Ebay for $49.000.00- 85% done but the colors were Copra Drab & Chicle Drab with LB. upholstery still in the box. The seller has $100,000.00 into it. With that said i would not spend what the bid is right now on this car. Brent did a very nice job on the car trying to save it from the person who restored it before Brent got it.. That's all i am going to say. Car has some issues. not major but P.S. "THANK YOU DAVE L. for 400A and NOT A400 .The Best buy was Bruce Bones 400A at $45,000.[twin to this one] but no whitewalls. that it did not sell then. But its in a good home now. Brent could jump in and say it is not the car i am speaking about.
