Default alternator

Does anyone make a conversion kit that uses the original generator case with an alternator inside? 6 or 12 volt, I don't care. I just want the old school look.

EJ Whitney is doing a 6 volt conversion for my early V8 pickup.
Russ Evans is the guy for Model "A" generators.
both are great sources.

Consider an EVR by Tom Wesenberg instead. That lets you keep your original generator.

Russ Evans is the guy for Model A alternator/generator look-a-likes. He makes them up as they are ordered. Cost is about $385.00 and it will pass fine points judging. The 6 volt positive ground unit has an output of 45 amps. Great workmanship and he's a real nice guy to deal with. He doesn't have an email address so you have to call he direct. His number is 508-583-4221 in Simi Valley, California. You won't be sorry you spent the money.

You might also look at FUN PROJECTS : their modern voltage regulator is built inside the stock Cut-Out shell and continues to sit on top of the stock generator. This gives the authentic 'stock' look, but has the advantage of a hidden voltage regulator. Both this V.R. and Tom Wesenberg's V.R. would be cheaper than an alternator-inside-generator-housing, and work just as well.

Of course, if your car is LOADED up with all kinds of electronic devises, I can see where you might be more comfortable with the fully comprehensive modern alternator. I too, like many of us, find the visual aspect of a modern alternator a bit jarring and noticeably 'out of place'. So I fully understand your wanting to both have it AND to HIDE it.

I run the Fun Projects can style voltage regulator on my roadster . I use the 12 volt positive ground version with my original unmodified model A generator . No wires have to be changed. Six and eight volt versions are also available as well as negative ground versions. Here is mine.

It has been awhile since we looked at those there was someone in the Pacific Northwest that was doing it but it was pretty expensive something like $300-$400.
