Banjo to torque tube bolt torque
Does anyone know what the torque is for the 6 bolts that hold the torque tube to the banjo rear end on a '33? Thanks.

Re: Banjo to torque tube bolt torque
I doubt that was ever specked. Just snug them to the point you would any fastener of that size.

Re: Banjo to torque tube bolt torque
More important than torque:
Do not "clean up" the threads. The threads are tight for a reason. Also, paint some thread sealer on the bolts. Immediately after securing the bolts, use a stiff brush to remove excess sealer from around the bolts.

Re: Banjo to torque tube bolt torque
Thanks for the heads-up, I'll put a little thread sealer on them and get to it.

Re: Banjo to torque tube bolt torque
They are thru, that's why the sealer is needed.

Re: Banjo to torque tube bolt torque
Just checked a 35, 37, and a 39 banjo. The four through holes are "outside", and the two that see oil are blind, so sealer isn't needed on the bolts. Torque to 25 ft. lbs. Need safety wire also.

Re: Banjo to torque tube bolt torque
OH oh. Sorry, I misread the question. The axle housings to banjo are through holes, requiring sealant. You guys should have read my mind!

Re: Banjo to torque tube bolt torque
What I like to do on those flanged interfaces is very lightly flat file the mating surfaces of both flanges to remove any burrs, nicks, uneveness, etc., that might prevent a good gasket seal. By flat filing I just lay a fine flat file on the surface and put light finger pressure on the center of the file and move the file back and forth and also rotate around the face of the flange on both the banjo housing and the torque tube. Then when I bolt those two together, I coat the gasket with grease and snug all six bolts down evenly. Then I come back and final torque each bolt so that one of the wire holes in the head of each bolt line up to allow the safety wire to feed around through the holes in a circular pattern, twist the ends together to give about a 3/4" long twist, cut off the excess and push the twisted ends down against the the flange.
