Terry Burtz Got a Good Casting!!
I just talked to one of my customers who gave a talk about brakes at the recent F.A.S.T. meeting. He said Terry was there with casting #14. It hasn't been machined but Terry said he was very happy with it--no core shifts or porosity issues.

The advantages is that it would be a totally new engine with all parts new with some upgrades for those who would like that ability. The biggest disadvantage for some will be the price. More about the project can be learned at http://modelaengine.com/ . |

Re: Terry Burtz Got a Good Casting!!
He's aiming for a $3,000 price for the block, crank and rods. I don't think this is attainable but even if it was $4,000, it would be an advantage, both price-wise and quality-wise, to buy one of these rather than rebuild your 80 year old original block. The advantage is that it will be all new, structurally stronger, better oiling system, has a rear main bearing seal. It will look stock on the outside, and all the perifials will be stock, original Model A. Terry also had a casting of the new rod that will go in the engine. He has done a lot of very nice work on this project and I wish him the best!

Re: Terry Burtz Got a Good Casting!!
My local rebuilder will charge way over 3 Grand to do modifications to 80 year old pieces of fatigued metal. Counter balancing, pressure oil, main seal ETC.. You will still have undersized crank, overbored block with rust out and fatigue. I am waiting impatiently for the Burtz engine to hit the street.

For a couple of advantages. It will have a 5 main crank, with counter weights, and bigger bearings. That should be the end of broken cranks. |

Re: Terry Burtz Got a Good Casting!!
If he could hit the 3500.00 mark, he would sell a ton of these I think. I would save and buy one of these before spending the same money on my old block. This would insure Ida lives another 83 years! Can't wait!

Re: Terry Burtz Got a Good Casting!!
i like the idea. Also interested in the casting process. Does this mean they can make a good casting almost every time? Or do they have to cast a few and select the best?
