Wheel resurrection?

I came across three model A wheels (and a model Y ) real cheap. I dont need them as such, but thought I'd give it a shot resurrecting them

The wheels are quite rusty but appear intact - a few bent spokes here and there.

My plan so far is to straighten the spokes, gently blast the whole thing and powder coat them.


Any advice to how to best straighten spokes without compromising the straightness of the wheel would be much appreciated.
Also - is there a rigorous way to check the rims (material thickness etc), or is carfull inspection and gut feel the way to go?

JayJay, That looks like an interesting article. Is there any way you could download a PDF of that article so we can read it? Our old eyes are not good enough to read the fine print and when I enlarge it, it gets all pixilated.

Ruth - sorry about that, this is what I have. I'll contact my club member and see if he has it in PDF. You aren't the only one with "experienced" eyes...

I think that the forum compresses the file to upload. I don't have any problem reading the original jpeg on my computer. If you (or anyone else interested) will PM me with a private email I can send you the full size version of what I have (~1.5 MB/page, much more than what got uploaded).

I have used this tool and it works very well.

I use an old pipe wrench to straighten spokes..........
