Default 51-52 ford truck electric wiper

I tested a 51-52 ford truck electric wiper assembly tonight and got the motor to spin. It is a mess with grease all over it and needed a good cleaning. I took it apart and have everything soaking in parts cleaner. What kind of grease should I refill the gear cams on each side with? The gear housing covers had gaskets that looked like leather not sure, will regular gasket paper work as a replacement?

I think I used synthetic grease called super lube. I also think thinner is better and something that doesn't dry out and get hard over time.

One thing I found and maybe it was just my wiper motor, tighten the housing bolts down while it is running on the bench. Mine would lock up if I tightened unevenly or too tight. Tapping it with a small soft faced hammer as I tightened helped. Even the mounting bolts in the dash affected it.

Just mentioning it in case you get all done and it doesn't work.

JB,I thought you were going to use a vacuum wiper set-up?Hope you ain't going to drill holes in that beautiful dash!if you do go that way I would be careful about tightening those two screws on dash.I have seen them pull dash down there and it will look like @#$%^&!May need some shims between dash and bracket underneath dash so this won't happen.

Plan is to stay vacuum. This thing was sitting on my bench and I had to test it. You know how these things go, test it then you want to fix it, etc.

Scotty got the housing and all the parts cleaned. It works well at both speeds but I don’t think it’s operating as it should. Both sides spin but the pivot with the little button switch doesn’t do anything, it just spins in one direction until power is removed or the switch is turned off? It seems like when the rider goes over the button something should happen or that is where it should stop?

Sorry it's been a while since I worked on mine. Maybe it's the park position? The guys over on FTE might have more info.
