Default Wheel bearing and races question

The inner race for the inner wheel bearing turns but is a snug fit. I was told it shouldn't turn and to remove it and add a few punches to the opening to make a tight fit and keep it from turning. My question is what harm does the turning do if any?

If allowed to spin/move it could wear where it should seat and be tight causing more of a lose fit than what u have now.
Loc- tite makes a green race filler type product that u could use too. I believe there is a max tolerance that it can be lose for it to be effective.

As time (and miles) go by, it's going to start turning easier, and easier, and more and more. Eventually, it'll "waller" that hole that it sits in to a size that will make the hub instant junk. DD

I had one that the punch marks didn't work on but the green loctite did. Still running it 10 years later.

Could be a combination of the both if extreme. The center punch fitting slang term we've used is chicago fitting.
Have done it on bearings for a paper machine with good results. Just saying.

The outer race should be a press fit
The cone roller assembly should be a slip fit on the spindle so it can creep---this way the wear is more even and the bearing lasts longer

Center punching is a last resort butchers fix up job and not good engineering practice. Use the Loctite. If badly worn then a sleeve could be machined to suit. Regards, Kevin.

Make certain the primary bearing doesn't have a flat or tiny imperfection which gave rise to the bearing spinning in the first place. Regrease it in any case while you can.
