Re: Jacking Instructions
I use a Sunex 2 ton "low rider" to raise mine. I cut grooves in the top of a hockey puck (which fits the top of my floor jack) to "embrace" the axle to keep it from sliding while I lift her. On the top of my jacks stands I have small pieces of carpet glued to the tops to prevent marring the paint on the axles. I put the car in gear and set the emergency brake and start raising the front with the jack centered on the axle. I place the front jack stands just outboard of the front spring purchases. Then I go to the rear and place the hockey puck just forward of the differential drain plug. One jack stand goes on the axle just inboard of the muffler and the other equidistant on the driver's side axle. For fore and aft adjustments, I use a level, sitting on the running board, while I'm raising her so any fluids I'm draining later will flow.
My jack stands are 2 ton and 20" high from the floor and that gives me about 9" of extra room to work. Any higher and I would go to heavier stands for safety as well as raise the front and back incrementally because I feel the angle would be too much to trust her not sliding off the floor jack. |

Re: Jacking Instructions
I use a folded hand towel on my jack to protect paint under the car.
I keep worn out towels for use in the shop. |
