Default Gearbox growls in top gear only when I hold over the stick when driving down the road

I overhauled the 3 speed 1946 p/u box with new bearings and second gear and synchro cones etc. All looked snazzy. What could be causing the noise? It occurs only if I lean on the gear lever when driving in top.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks Kevin

Well. thats easy, don't lean on the lever ! but really, when leaning, you are putting side thrust and forced contact on the fork and synchro hub , so perhaps one or the other has a rough surface ?

It is a shift lever not a hand rest. Save that for the steering wheel or you G F

The Synchro sleeve has a sweet spot that it likes to rotate in. Applying pressure to the sleeve through the gear change mechanism has a tendency to force the sleeve out of that sweet spot. The gear selector is not really a good place to rest your arm.
