Origial paint cars
I really love seeing original paint cars. Their patina says soo much more than a newer shinny finish. I have noticed over time that most of the original paints I have had the good fortune to see and judge have Andalusite Blue as the major color. I am interested to know if this color predominance has been just a west coast experience or a general trend. I have also noticed 1929 Fordors are the most common body style for the original paints I have seen. A friend who has an original paint 1929 Fordor, that is Andalusite Blue, thinks the wood used in them was harder and therefore more durable than the earlier and later all wood Fordors. Interested in others observations.

Re: Original paint cars
I love them as well. The car in my Avatar is an original early 1931 Canadian Tudor in For Maroon.

Re: Origial paint cars
Tom,
The red steering wheel is original. The roadster was assembled at the Twin City plant in your back yard. Jim |

Re: Original paint cars
Slightly OT:
But still on the subject of original colors, I recently came across this image of a white Model A. I'm pretty sure it was not a factory color. So I wonder when did Ford offer an all white body color? I'm thinking maybe the 50's? |

Re: Origial paint cars
Here's my '29 Std Roadster with all original paint. Came out of a barn in WV. Gonna stay just as it is with the exception of a new top. Unfortunately the mice and critters enjoyed many meals off the old top!

Re: Origial paint cars
dont believe the wood was any diff in 29 then ANY other year
the fact that there are more 29's around could be attributed to prod figures. |

Quote:
Just going by calendar year engine production (I know it doesn't exactly correlate to model year production, but probably close), the "rarest" Model As should be the '31s with only 600k made, second the '28s with 800k, third the '30s at 1.5 million, and the most common should be '29s with 1.9 million. Survival rate is likely the same percentage of total production for each year, so there should be more '29s around today than any other year...far more than '28s or '31s.

Re: Origial paint cars
In my AVATAR you will see my '31 Coupe with original paint, except for fenders and hood.
Many complements on patina. It will stay that way forever. |

Re: Origial paint cars
Tom, using the word "stupid" is not politically correct anymore. I had to use "special" ...
(Whoops, gotta be careful here too, don't want to get political.) And seriously I would love to have an "A" with original paint but I always seem to be coming up with cars that have original patina. |

Re: Origial paint cars
Pmsqrd, it sure does seem that there are more Andalusite Blue original paint cars. Your point about Fordors, I believe, is right on. My thought is that Coupes, Roadsters, Cabriolets and even Tudors were more desired and used by the younger guys in the 40's, 50's and 60's and therefore, there are less original ones left. Seems like this original four door thing is common with many makes, models and years.
Getting back to the '29 Fordor idea, one only needed to be in Loveland this summer at the MAFCA meet to see this hyppothesis verified. There were two original Andalusite Blue Fordors in judging. Both were spectacular. And here's the weird thing, their engine numbers were only 246 apart. Talk about close relatives. An Aside: Note to those who see me at Hershey. I am not homeless. My new silver long hair and white/silver long beard look will allow me to be Santa in the local Special Ed. classes. This will be a great experience and eliminate another bucket list item. Ho ho ho! Re: Origial paint cars
One more thing about the original paint cars...the paint has a real depth to it. I agree with Step-down, they seem to have a soul.
