Re: Ford model a taxi cab
The MAFCA web site shows a total domestic production of 4850 over the four years. Combine this with the hard use to which they were put I would say it is a pretty rare car. Note that the cowl area is unique to this model and you can't just take a Fordor, paint it yellow and call it a Taxi.

Re: Ford model a taxi cab
True it has a ford front cowl but the rear of car is unique it's like a Briggs four door except ,the doors have no wood and a extra door hinge and is a little bit longer

Re: Ford model a taxi cab
Would venture to guess that like ALL original old cabs, Model A Ford genuine TAXI versions are very rare. As it was, such heavy usage service vehicles got "used up" and were junked at a younger age than other civilian vehicles. Have an original photo someplace in the collection showing the Lynn, Massachusetts main depot of the Boston, Revere Beach and Lynn Railroad with four Model A Ford taxi cabs parked out front, backed in. Picture was made sometime around year 1930.

An old pic of a taxi I found somewhere...... Careful slamming that front door, you might cut your head off.

Speaking of Taxi Model A's, here is a short video of the Tijuana Taxi one of our members bought from the west coast. It runs good now and he has a ton of fun with it. He now has a meter in it and the taxi cap to go with it.

Re: Ford model a taxi cab
Thanks guys for the help !!! 909 I think the one on eBay is a recreation the car I am looking at is a pretty unique .it is a four door but the cowl looks like a 1928 or 1929 coupe or two door the back door has 3 hinges and is the same with as the front door and the front door looks like a two door .Also there is no wood in the door they seem more like two doors all metal as well the whole body is longer it has the metor but the glass divider is missing along with the jump seat according to the date on the gas tank it was built late December 1928

There is an original Taxi in the model a museum that I donated a couple of years ago. You may want to take a look at it. Bill Edstrom

Re: Ford model a taxi cab
I don't have a taxi, but I pretend/feel like I do sometimes.
And I don't mind...love driving it

Re: Ford model a taxi cab
I do remember a "real" taxi body for sale on ebay around 15 years ago-bullet holes and all.
think it settled for close to 4k and was just a body in tough shape. |
