Default 1931 Model As availabilty???

Cars today and sometime back were/are available mostly as early as the Fall before the year of manufacturer. Was this so back in 1930 for a new 1931 Model A?

I don't know about Model A's, but I remember as a teen in the 60's looking forward to visiting the dealers in September to see the new models. Of course, that's when manufacturers and the models weren't identical to every other car.

I remember back then too and waiting for them to hit the showrooms.

I read an old news article the other day that mentioned Ford's production for 1929, and it mentioned those numbers were 'final' as the assembly lines had shut down for November and December. The new body styles required a bit of re-tooling. So I suspect new models were introduced shortly before the calendar year ended. The article can be found here -

Cannot find my references, but I believe some "1928" A's were sold in the late fall of 1927.

What time of year are your big 'Motor Shows'? In Europe they are all in the autumn and the manufacturers all produce 'next year's model' to coincide with the big shows at the NEC, Paris, Geneva and Frankfurt. It is a marketing ploy.
