Perfect restoration
Here is a question I have pondered for many years.
How many high point show cars would pass "Total" judging if say, a very large sum of money was to be won? By total judging I mean from scratch. That means analyzing the metals used in the various parts to verify they are as original, analyzing the paint formulas of the paints used, tearing every thing on the car down to verify that no Mickey Mouse fixes have been used like punch marking bearing race areas to temporarily tighten them up, using modern parts inside the engine where they don't show, using modern formula rubber floor mats and so on. There are thousands of ways to "cheat" but they could all be detected if there was enough money involved..... Who would be the first to build a "perfect restored car"? |

Re: Perfect restoration
Have no idea; however, as someone humourously stated before, a few points may be taken off because the 2013 air in the tires would not be authentic air from the 1920's/1930's.

Re: Perfect restoration
Doesn't all that criteria take the fun right out of a Model A or is it just me?

Re: Perfect restoration
Maybe Larry Ellison would give up on America's Cup yacht racing and venture into Model A's! OMG, what a horrible thought!!!

Re: Perfect restoration
What I really don't understand is the guy that has a "high point original" car, but it has, say, a Stipe 330 cam, Burlington crank, insert bearings, chevy pistons, Mitchell transmission, Snyder 5.5 head, etc, etc. all because none of this shows, then will dis the guy that has an alternator.

Re: Perfect restoration
WELL the dumbest thing i ever heard while judging A.A.C.A. meet..... FORD "NEVER" made the perfect car..... SO he takes some points off no matter what.... When i am not judging this same judge is still around and still getting to judge Model "A"s...Judged my car twice in the past so i say to myself there goes 1 or 2 points...l.o.l. This past year he told a group of us sitting under a tree in Tenn. Grand National that the Model "A' bumpers are stainless steel... I can't make this shit up....FAT JUDGE WITH A STRAW HAT.. LATE 60'S.....L.O.L.

Re: Perfect restoration
I'm the only one in my club who gives a #$%^&* about judging. We are a fun, touring club. I drive my show cars on the tours but spend a lot of time cleaning them after.

This is kinda mild for posts during "winter blues" when folks have been couped up too long. Silly, yes. Absurd? Well maybe. Nobody has gotten nasty so that is a good thing for mid winter. It typically gets far worse this time of year when the goal needs to be to limit the damage! Additionally it was stupid on my part to think a bunch of car guys would know anything about an unfulfilled billionaire that buys up companies as well as the island of Lanai for an ego booster! I have to give you credit as you always seem stable and focused. I think If I lived up where you are I'd be one of those "statistics" where my only outlet would be via computer this time of year.

Re: Perfect restoration
I sometimes wonder how high a "brand new" Model A would have scored at MAFCA / MARC judging... ?
And where the deductions ( if any ) would be made ? |
