Where is the best place to cut a Late '31 gas tank for repair/reseal/reweld?

Do a search
Brent has some explicit info and pics on this site
You cut the top off around the track welds but a lot more to it to know

You have to remove the top panel as it is not attached to the baffles . I had to do this as my tank had a large wasps nest located behind a side baffle . I cut the tank top several inches in from the seam edge weld . I could access all the interior easily and give a good clean out luckily the wasps had left home . I mig welded the top back in and water tested for leaks the top is quite rigid and I had no alignment issues . Very little bondo was needed I did this about ten years ago and the repair is stable and not visible . Before you start make sure the tank is gas free .

John in hot weather Suffolk County England .

I like cutting them in the factory weld as it is less-obtrusive when re-welded. It has been my experience that you need a jig or fixture when the tank is reassembled to eliminate the possibility of distortion or twisting during fitment & welding.

Just use a 3M 01987 cut-off wheel.
