Clutch size
I was given a nice flywheel for my 59 , new ring gear and was manhined cut .
It's large . Question I need to buy clutch a assembly but not sure the size . Is there a method of measuring the bolt patterned to conclude clutch size ... Hope I said that right ...

Re: Clutch size
All the 59 series used the 10-inch Long type clutch. They can be drilled to fit others but the OEM clutch is still easy to find good cores for rebuild. Some of the late reproductions aren't the best though so I tend to send good cores to Ft Wayne Clutch for rebuild on the old stuff rather than trust the off shore stuff.

Re: Clutch size
Please post photos of what you have along with measurements to explain "large".

Re: Clutch size
There was a thread on this subject - we ascertained there was a more or less simple formula.
Something like 9" clutch has holes on a 10-3/8" circle. 10" has a 11-3/8 circle, 11 has a 12-3/8 circle. Don't quote me on these numbers until I find the original thread. From you're pics, though, I'd say it's not a 11" because the holes for the 11" are around the enge of the flywheel. So maybe 10" or 9". I can't speak for an 8BA wheel, though. You were given the wheel for your 59A, can you be sure it's a 59A wheel?? I'll try and find the other thread. Edit: Here's the thread. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...4069&showall=1 It was as I said, with the added info that the holes are spaced 32 degrees apart. Mart. Re: Clutch size
turn it over on the backside and see if it has the "big" relief that clears the oil pimp drive gear cover. 8BA do not have this releif

Re: Clutch size
8BA has holes drilled all the way through for the pressure plate bolts. Earlier are blind. An earlier flywheel will bolt on an 8BA, but the starter won't engage. I found out the hard way....

Re: Clutch size
The ring gear for the starter is in a different position between the two.
