Default Fender Skirts

Installed a pair of fender skirts on my '48 Merc that have been off the car 30 years. They look good straight on but up close both appear to be away from the fenders midway about an 1/8". Am I being too finiky or are they suppose to be tight all around? Carl

Hi Carl - my 41s are a bit away from the bodywork as well - a bit less the 1/8" this is due to the gasket though. You are right - skirts just look very smart on the old girls don't they!
Best
John

The skirts on my 48 Merc are away from the body like yours and as John said it is due to the gasket. That is a good thing because the paint on the fenders does not get scratched etc.

Our '47 Ford skirts fit the same way. I don't think any "Fat Fender" Ford or Merc is fully dressed if it's not wearing skirts.
