Smile Steering Box Ford 1949 sedan

I do need a new steering box to my Ford 1949 sedan V8. Is there any substitute to find?

Are you wanting to keep it stock or are you open to modification? I ask because the car in your avatar seems to be slightly modified and some folks have "upgraded" these to a Volvo box. It might be easier to find than a stock replacement for you.

You could look through this thread that discusses making adjustments to the gear box that might save you from having to purchase new or rebuilt.

The worm is usually the first thing to wear out in the OEM 49 thru 51 Ford box. While difficult to replace (a press and some special tooling are needed), the parts are available. An exchange would fix you up if you don't want to do it yourself.

Maybe we should rename this "The Ford Barn Internaionale"!

To the O/P; I would take Murre up on his offer; he is one of the "good guys" and I believe he will be an excellent resource for you.
