Cross part number for 32 Inter axle seal
I did a search without much success. This is the oil seal closet to the differential for a late 32 banjo.
Thanks in advance. |

Re: Cross part number for 32 Inter axle seal
There use to be an external axle seal that slid into the outer portion of the axle housing that worked very well in the EFV8's when the inner seals failed. I have the external seals in the Columbia under my '36.
It should be kept in mind that the Ford axle seal was not intended to "seal" the shaft, the purpose was to restrict the flow, allowing some oil to reach the wheel bearing, the seal in the drum kept the oil within the bearing hub. Of course some rear axle housings had grease zerks to lube the wheel bearings, as to how often this was done is probably a debatable matter.

Re: Cross part number for 32 Inter axle seal
There isn't a seal close to the differential.
there are seals at the outer ends of the axle bells and the same seal at the front of the torque tube. The axle needs to be disassembled to change them. I wasn't able to find a cross reference either, but any early ford supplier has them. So pick the vendor of your choice. They have a model A part number from memory. Mart, Edit B-4245-A is worth a google. One vendor sells a set of three at a good price. That vendor is 35fordtn on this forum. Last edited by Mart; 06-01-2021 at 11:27 AM. |

Hi mart, I was trying to distinguish the inter axle seal from the hub seal, that's why I referenced the differential. I was hoping to pick them up locally so not to hold up my rebuild. |

Re: Cross part number for 32 Inter axle seal
I have an (older) size chart for National seals.
With micrometer measurements, I can find a seal that works- for lots of things. So can a lot of others. Karl |
