Default Will a '42-44 distributor work on a '48 engine ?

I had my engine rebuilt and I don't know if the guy pulled a fast one on me or if he just had both a '42-'44 and a '46-'48 in his shop and got them mixed up or what, but he gave me back my old V style cap with the old parts he replaced. Will I run into trouble running a '42-'44 distributor on my '48 mercury engine ?

Shouldn't be a problem as the caps are interchangeable with clips and or bail to run eithe one. Each has their own look...

The crab cap is certainly more user friendly than the weather sealed unit used through 48.

Let me see if I am understanding this, it very well might be the only thing that was changed is that a crab cap was put on my distibutor ?

could very well be,
the only difference is the side clips vs a wire bail on the two style of caps..

If so, I've got the side clips now. My distributor must of gotten switched.

Crab cap has a gasket behind it,the rotor is longer on a 42. Basic dist is same as 48. Diff. clips, rotor and cap. I would also use the rubber nipples on the cap holes theres 9 of them. ken ct.
