'38 roll-back window mechanism
The door window in my '38 had gotten really hard to roll up past the point that it slides forward. I took the door panel off and see that this post roller runs in a slot in the regulator. It was gummed up and hard to turn (weather cold). I took it apart and cleaned the old grease out and it turns freely. Question: Should there be any lubricant at all in the roller? If so, what kind? I thought of graphite since it is dry and shouldn't harden.

How about some "Red and Tacky" on the gears?

Re: '38 roll-back window mechanism
A second part of the question: In this door, the rear glass edge pushes against the steel inner structure of the door for the last inch or so of rise. You can see in this picture where it hits the metal. Should there be a cushion, channel, etc for the glass to slide on?

Re: '38 roll-back window mechanism
I use white grease on the rollers along with the slotted tracks on the lower window channel.
Looks like you are missing the glass run channel on back of that door. What does the other door have there? |

Re: '38 roll-back window mechanism
I also used white grease on all the window mechanism on our 38 convertible, got some in a cup, and some in a spray can for hard to reach places

The other door is like this one. I put kits in the doors and there was only whiskers for the garnish and opening on the door. The only channels were for the door below the window line. |

I'd use Wynn's Viscotene.

Re: '38 roll-back window mechanism
I guess I thought the channels went all the way to the top like they do on the earlier cars I am used to. Any chance the glass itself is a little too far back in the bottom channel? I know that make a difference in operation of the vent function, etc.
