1940 Radio Speaker
Anyone know the size/shape of the speaker for a stock '40 radio?

Re: 1940 Radio Speaker
Not a 6X9, its round and fits inside the radio. I am not aware of a direct replacement available for this but one of the radios I had rebuilt the speaker was replaced with a pernament magnet type and is smaller in diameter . One other choice you have is to have your old speaker reconed. This website might be of some help. www.turnswitch.com

Re: 1940 Radio Speaker
I used a Radio Shack oval speaker and I think the number was 40-1261C. It was the biggest one I could find that would fit in the radio. Made some adapter brackets out of sheet metal. It has a permanent magnet so you do not hook up the field wires that were connected to the old speakers dynamic field coil shown as 39 on the radio diagram. This will cut down on power consumption by about 4 amps I think. I measured it at the time about 6 years ago but didn't record it. My radio is a original equipment Philco.
