Default 40 battery tray

Hey guys, trying to figure out battery tray location. The first pic I am posting has what I believe to be a 40 at a car show with the correct battery tray location. I set mine up there as you can see but came across a problem in the rear mounting hole. What am I doing wrong?? Thanks

It looks like if you flatten out the tab and reform it it would work, maybe. It could be also the wrong tray. Good luck

[QUOTE=40fordpu;108424]Hey guys, trying to figure out battery tray location. The first pic I am posting has what I believe to be a 40 at a car show with the correct battery tray location. I set mine up there as you can see but came across a problem in the rear mounting hole. What am I doing wrong?? Looks to me like you got it right, but why is that battery box bolt tab "bent" in such an awkward manner? I tried to take photos of that particular tab and how it bolts to the frame but wasn't able to take the photo. I believe that particular tab is held in place and hidden by the same bolt that holds the inner fender panel. You can see the silver colored nut up inside my frame in the second photo that secures it.You may have the wrong tray as your bolt tab looks different than the one I bought in a Drake catalog from long ago in the 80's (shown)? Mine fit all 3 try bolt holes in the frame - 2 on top, 1 on the side. You could modify the tab without too much work.

If you flatten out the tab, and rotate the tray slightly, does it align with the hole in the top of the frame?
I'm pretty sure my tray only fits to holes on top of the frame, but it may have been modified..??
Mart.

Edit - Can see the other pics now - looks like mine is wrong.
If you flatten out the tab and rebend it, it looks like it will align with the hole in the side of the frame.

All holes line up but the one with the bent tab. I am confused.

It appears to have been bent in the wrong location, as the one I used fit flush with the frame and aligned perfectly with the hole. As others have said, you could fairly easily rework the bend to fit up to the frame, particularly if you can heat it with a torch. I would heat it, then use a vise and perhaps a few well-placed blows with a hammer, checking the fit as you go.

It looks exactly like the repo I got several years ago from one of the mod A parts suppliers. It was just made wrong and they confirmed it and gave back my money. Looks like you got one that was never returned. Suggest you look for another one that is made right.
