seatbeltIQ
Attempting seat belt install on 31' 170-B.
L.Andrews p. 4-81 #5 says..secure anchor bracket to metal seat frame with 7/16'' bolt. On the backside of metal frame (or Dexeion angle iron strip) install fender washer etc. Here's the problem, there is no room behind the metal seat frame for anything but a flat piece of steel! I was going to reinforce the install with a 2x2x1/4'' angle but that is impossible as far as I can see.WHAT AM I MISSING HERE?? What does ''or Dexeion angle iron strip'' mean? Thank you. |

Re: seatbeltIQ
dexeion angle iron is the thin stuff with holes already punched in it that you can bend by stepping on it (not that its designed to its just weak and would NOT use for anything seatbelt related)...
your 2x2x1/4 thick stuff of true steel angle iron (no holes) is ideal. be sure to use grade 8 hardware whatever you end up doing

Re: seatbeltIQ
32..Thanks for your reply. The problem is, there is no place to put the angle iron. Directly behind the metal seat frame is the upholstery on the backside of the front seat, where the 7/16''x20x2'' bolts exists from the metal seat frame. The angle iron could only be placed on the ''front side'' of the metal seat frame but then the seat cushion would be off in the rear by 1/4''.
Everyone says that bolting the belts to the metal seat frame alone is insufficient but where this angle or even a piece of strap metal goes is alluding me. |

Re: seatbeltIQ
Lakeside, for what it's worth, I used a 2x2 angle iron under the car to bolt my seat belts to in my Town Sedan.

Re: seatbeltIQ
I'm not sure what a 170-B is but do as Y-blockhead says. On some models the belts can be bolted to the car's frame on the outer belt but need a substantial anchor for the inner ends.

Thanks for your reply. So, did you secure the seat belts, not to the metal seat frame, but instead go thru the oak seat frame down to the attached angle iron under the car? Also to J. Briefly, the 170-B is a blindback ( two window) |

Re: seatbeltIQ
Yes, The angle iron runs from frame rail to frame rail. As someone said DON'T use that Dexeion. It is much too light weight for seat belt mounts.
Hope the picture is clear, I had my exercise for the day... |

Re: seatbeltIQ
Almost forgot. My seat is moved back 3" (for my long a$$ legs) so your mounts may be in a different spot.

Re: seatbeltIQ
Do you have any pictures of the inside of the seat belt fasteners?
