Re: New engine
Ya das ist gut.
Also I am glad to know that I am not the only guy on the whole planet that has a kink in his spark adjust rod. |

the bent spark rod is an OK temporary farmer fix, but eventually the steering column should be rotated so everything lines up correctly with the rod straight. see the procedure on Marco's web site......

Re: New engine
The engine and compartment look very nice.
I see you insulated the first spark plug strap, so you are probably using a timing light. Last edited by Tom Wesenberg; 04-07-2013 at 06:36 PM. |

Re: New engine
Looks Great Christoph !!!!!
Now you should be ready for the long Summer trips you have planed. Was it one from the USA or is it the old engine that you rebuilt ? any modifications ? John Cochran |

Re: New engine
Thank you for your comments
Original engine ist still running but tired. Took it out of the car and stored it propper (hopefully) New engine is a rebuilt of an old engine Its got inserts, oil pressure, is counterbalanced and has 5,5-head (shame on me) Excuse: no one over here to do (payable) rebabbits and US-Vendors dont have overseas warranty ( Scruple is gone once using 2nd rearlight, fuses and 3:54axle ) But it has to be a driver as we want to drive even more than we did last year. First start was somewhat bumpy It stalled often till i found out that - manifolds not tightened - sparks without propper clearence (no 2 had contact) I did shout the mechanic to be an idiot (which was me) Full floating engine now (chances to use engine-pans in future??) Once driving, there are strange speed related noises (going off the throttle) Got to find out about (Noises are still arround if im "out of gear" so its not the engine). Additional there are slight noises from leakless waterpump area (might a new leakless have a bad bearing???) Thought there might be comments regarding oil-pipe to the camshaft.. No?? Ja - Tom i know that you got sharp eyes and you are right I thought you would comment the oil-caps on the starter too Sorry to state that i did not know regarding kink in spark-rod as i (back in time) bought the first A i ever saw running Not to many Pre-War-cars left over here .... I DO LIKE THE KINK Change will be priority : c BTW I have thisRadius-ball using the rubber-ball I do not need springs anymore?? How strong to tighten nuts? Ball still should be able to move inside ?? Effects of full floating-engine? Did anyone ever change back to any reason?? Please come back with ideas. No club nor other A arround - Got to learn from you... Thank you Greetings Christoph Head is retightened allready. Engine went about : 15 hours on a bench (electrical driven) and about 15 hours on a bench (under own power) |

Re: New engine
Chris looks like a 7 tooth column, so he will not be able to rotate it.

Nice neat oil filter arrangement. Where is the oil return line going?

Re: New engine
George
Good to learn about steering - didnt know it 7-tooth Thank you Lots of oil-pressure now Feeding the inserts through the drilled crankshaft and feeding the camshaft on its front (would you in US do that too??) My Engine-Guru stated that the engine looked (before rebuilding it) somewhat dry in that area and he didnt like.... He stated that some Splash-engines will splash less than others Might have changed after 80 years or so... Hopefully i will need 20 years to tell you whether that was a good idea. |

Re: New engine
Well - wurks - actually we did.
Guru said he did his own A 20 years ago and engine still is powerfull... Got to trust him. Would be great to have pre-drilled holes in the counterbalanced crankshafts Just drill throug surface (in case you need the oil-lines), and thats it... How do you feed inserts?? |

Re: New engine
Deiner motor ist viele schoen! ( I think that's correct?) Anyway, Very nice! So many distractions come along while we're working, Phone rings, dog barks, who knows! We sometimes forget to tighten something. It can be really bad when you're working on an airplane. It happens all the time. Just check, check, and recheck! (But don't take too long)

Re: New engine
"BTW

Christoph, you may want to "rethink" the rubber ball idea. They say the rubber ball will wear out quickly and you will have a loose ball. But if you watch it over a period of time, it may work just fine. I converted mine back to not use the rubber ball. So don't know about the springs. Maybe someone else may have an answer on that.

Re: New engine
Terry
Your german is way than better than mine, i guess Im grown old - I dont need distructions anymore I turn arround and forgot what i was going to do It happened some time ago ,that i forgot the crank after doing adjustments... I found out 2 miles later when it went with a big bang. New cranks from vendors are black (not chrome anymore) and the paint goes together with the sticker which says "Made in Korea". ronn I dont go onto Autobahn and feel great if i dont spot Polizei at all . Fred Long time no contact Rubber ball is soaked with oil and ugly.... Dont like that at all Will find out about - no need to rush things. Found some more trouble today Alu-fan was somewhat loose which caused noise.... Fan-belt was to short and tight. Changed to a loose belt I do long time tests how lose a fan belt can be While working, i found myself changing the pitman-arm (looked BAD) and draglink...wow - who welded that draglink??? And i found nice 6v 32/32 bulps in my garage. Why didnt i install earlier Going on with this speed, car will be all new in about a year. |

Re: New engine
Christoph, yes it has been a long time since we "rapped" on this site. See your posts once in awhile. Looks like you have done well in making you rig "new" again. But it is fun!!????? Right?? Anyway, it gives us "older" guys something to do.
