Default Question for ‘39 pickup experts

Ruby the pickup is missing the grille center trim. I posted on the parts wanted forum and got a response from a seller.

Before I pull the trigger, is this the correct part?

Thanks!

Not even close. Your looking for a piece with a slightly flat elliptical shape and rolled edges that affix to the clips.

Thank you sir. Seemed a bit shady anyway, a new member to the Ford barn made the recommendation. By new, account literally created yesterday.

Cheers.

Looks like a 39deluxe grill center and not in great shape.

This is about the most obvious scamming method there is. You may want to do a search on spam and read a few of the threads.

That part is for sale on Ebay as a '39 pass car trim piece. Someone may have stolen the ebay photos for a scam. Don't know if it will help but here is a link that shows some good photos of the '39 pickup grill and trim.

Yup my scam radar was on, and I’ve blocked his or hers account. Thanks for the link to the trim Bill.

The hunt for the elusive center trim continues...

At some point I may reach out to my cousin who used to help manage a car collection owned by a famous clothing designer.

Kevin, these pictures might help in your search, the center strip is enclosed in a sealed plastic to protect it until I install it but gives you a good idea of what it should look like.

I have it on the front of my old grill shell to show you, hope this helps. Scott

Gary that sure is nice, I'm jealous The 38/39 front of the truck, I just love'm.

While your in a Kodak moment, would like to see your hood release under the bonnet and the mount atop the grill shell as I hope to fit mine next week. Scott

Here you go. 1st pic is with latch open and in locked position. 2nd I pushed in the spring loaded plate and moved latch to closed position. 3rd is of grill top, mine had this simple bar? on the grill top. I've also seen a large stud on top of grill of these pickups. Hope this helps.

Finding one of these NOS or in excellent condition has slightly better odds than finding the ark of the covenant. I'm still looking for one for my '39 pickup.

Portlander, that piece you have is a thing of beauty.

Years. I find them on occasion, however they are beat up beyond refurbishing. I quit looking hard for one though lately.
