Gas Tank Renu
Has anybody have their gas tank inside coated and sealed by GAS Tank Renu and had a failure? We had a carb problem and found tiny black specs in the carb. Suspected the flex line as the problem. Removed the flex line a found lots of black specs at the fuel pump end. Cut the flex line in half and found a plastic liner in the line preventing gas to come in contact with the rubber. Thanks Skip for that. Siphoned some gas from the tank and found black specs and residue in the gas. The source of the specs is from the inside of the tank or bad gas. Gas Tank Renu has not been to responsive to this problem as their work has a lifetime warrenty. Any body have any comments on this problem.

Re: Gas Tank Renu
If gas tank coating is not done properly it can be an issue. But I have no experience with the Renu product.

Re: Gas Tank Renu
If your tank has a rubber sleeve between the tank and the fill neck that may be your source of the black specks. Had that happen on a '40 tank. The rubber with age deteriorates and flakes off. With today's gas and the old rubber I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.

Re: Gas Tank Renu
Had my pickup tank done by them about 20 years ago and it seems fine so far. I do have a good inline fuel filter just inches from the tank and I run non-ox gas.

Re: Gas Tank Renu
I believe that each shop was a independently owned franchise. Some did good work and others didn't.

Re: Gas Tank Renu
I have done several myself, it is extremely important that the tank is cleaned properly before the coating is applied. If they took any short-cuts, that could be the problem.

Re: Gas Tank Renu
The Tank Renu that did mine actually cut the tank open and sandblasted it. The guy said it only "woofed" a couple of times while he was cutting it open.

Re: Gas Tank Renu
I was going to coat my 41 tank, because I was having plugage problems. After I got the sending unit out I found it had already been coated, and it was peeling off. Beplaced the tank and fuel lines. No more problems. Al

Re: Gas Tank Renu
I have three cars that I bought with dirty tanks. No problems with any of them in more than 20 years.
I cleaned two of them myself. I put sockets, nuts and bolts and other metal pieces in the tanks and shook them around until all the crud was knocked loose. Then rinsed them with hot water at the car wash. After they dried out I rinsed em with a little gasoline. Here in taxafornia it was $175 to clean a tank, another 100 to seal it. I never sealed any of mine or had them sealed. I think most good shops cut one side open and sandblast the inside of the tank before they seal it. If a new tank is available that is usually cheaper than monkeying around with the clean and seal headache. |

Re: Gas Tank Renu
They didn't last long in my area. You could see a huge pile of tanks next to their location which would seem to indicate that they ere using their advertising to draw in buyers for new tanks, which are widely available from established suppliers.
