A short detour after the car show today
I took my 1930 TS to a car show in Damascus, MD today. Mostly later cars and hot rods, but a few nice older cars. Three Model As, one 39 Ford pickup and a beautiful, restored late 40's Chevy COE. Sorry I didn't take a photo of that. On the way home, we took a little detour for a rural photo of the car.

Corn. Just weeds along the road, I think.

Very nice Model A! Also a nice photo of one of our beautiful areas of America. Thanks for sharing! It seems like in most of the car shows today very few older cars are present.

I've even seen some people display cars less than 10 years old at car shows. I have no idea what they were thinking. |

Re: A short detour after the car show today
Well, it is up to us to bring our cars out, which is what a few of us did.
There were a bunch of hot rods. Not to offend anyone, but I find hot rods pretty boring. There is a lot of work, dollars and craftsmanship that goes into them, but I really don't find them interesting. There was a nice collection of military vehicles, too. The Model T Club, of which I am a member, had its take apart car there. We drew a large crowd and had it reassembled in about ten minutes, and that was with me holding things up for a minute as I didn't put a rear spring shackle in quick enough during the assembly! Rookie mistake. |

Re: A short detour after the car show today
mhsprecher,
I'm very interested in your take apart car. Do you take it apart and put it together at the show? Can't believe you assemble a complete car in 10 minutes. Might you have a video of the process so we all can see? Yes, hot rods, Corvettes and muscle cars are mostly all you see at shows these days. However, there were three A's at our recent regional 4th of July parade of some 90 cars. Talked to some of the owners who seem to feel their cars are too delicate or pristine to run often so they stay in their garages and we don't see them on the road. Told them we recently drove our roadster some 80 miles from Richmond to Gloucester without any problems and that Model A's are a lot more reliable than they might think. They are meant to be driven. If they break, they are generally easy enough to fix. Glen

We take it apart and reassemble at the show. It is about a dozen or so pieces. I will try and find a video of it.

Re: A short detour after the car show today
Seems the interest in the older cars had diminished! Still old Fords have a following. But I wonder how much longer this will last?

Re: A short detour after the car show today
Here is a link to the club site that has some photos and a description: http://clubs.hemmings.com/ncmtfc/Assem.html
As to interest in the cars, the clubs are active, but certainly the average age is getting older, so things may drop off at some point. Sites like FB and others help maintain and promote interest. One reason to get our cars out there is to promote the hobby. Most of us have kids and grand children, so we need to get them involved, too. |

Re: A short detour after the car show today
Milford, I share your sentiments about the street rods. Also, nice to see a photo of your 1930 Fordor. I had my 1939 Ford pickup out this weekend. When I didn't have the kids with me I drove it to where ever I needed to go. Take care my friend.

Re: A short detour after the car show today
When admiring other type cars, just remember, to that owner, IT'S THE GREATEST CAR IN THE WORLD.
To make conversation, just ask, "What was the HARDEST part to find"? If you see small open holes in the body, comment, "You still looking for that part"? Bill Carpeoplelover

Re: A short detour after the car show today
Agree. Last 'old' car show I went to a few weeks ago there was an entire line of 2015-2017 Mustang GT's. Now, I'm a die hard Ford guy and I like these cars BUT I was thinking to myself 'I can go to the Ford dealership and look at this'

Milford,
What a great idea! I looked at the assembly photos and was fascinated. What a fun project. Glen

Re: A short detour after the car show today
Glen,
I think other Model T clubs do something similar and there may have been competitions at the national meets and the like. It is a fund-raiser for the Model T Club. I should take a video and post it to You Tube to share the experience. |
