Re: roof insert
Bill, Not a professional, but I did take a lot of pictures of the different steps when I replaced my insert, if that would help. Might give you an idea of what you're facing. My 34 had a flat piece of sheet metal welded to it that had to be removed first. Anyway LMK.

Re: roof insert
One secret in installing a new soft top is to replace the wood under the rim of the top opening. Most are rotted where the tack holes got wet. The perforated edge of the top opening in the body must be intact with minimum rust, If the metal edge molding comes in a straight piece, take time to make a wooden block with the shape of the corners to obtain a smooth curve. We prefer the "long grain" top material. Be sure to seal the edges before tacking down the trim. It helps to have two people doing the job so it can be pulled straight over the chicken wire and padding. LeBaron Bonney is an excellent source of necessary materials.

Re: roof insert
White is hard to find ready made. Get the wood top frame rebuilt. Get you some chicken wire and cotton batting. Go to the upholstery supply and buy some vinyl top material. While there get some hideum welt. Ace hardware for tacks. Some sealer and a day to install.
