Hmmm, I've been considering Not Using the outer trim ring and centre bar that came with my '39 Pickup.

I was going to list it in the want ad section after I finish my project - don't usually sell anything until it is all done.

Not sure I want to sell just the centre strip??? What is the outer ring and the strip worth?

Dave Turner (Turner Stainless) did a fantastic restoration of both my center and surround from pretty well beat up originals. He is early 80s, and I can share contact information if needed by email

This is what I did on my pickup. I used a flexible plastic, stick on automotive trim. The V8 emblem is from a newer Ford Explorer. Not stock but it looks great so it works for me.

I paid $300 for just the outer ring and it was in excellent condition.

So, this is what I have...

Bill, will the outer ring fit on your '38?

To the best of my knowledge, the outer trim rings for 38 and 39 pickups/trucks interchange. The center grill trim for 38 and 39 are not the same. The 39 center stainless is very difficult to find. I sold a NOS one to a person on Fordbarn for $300 several years back. I sold a NOS one on EBay that ended up going for a bit over $600. I sold a restored one on Ebay that also went for a bit over $600. I no longer have any extra 39 grill stainless. It took me several years to find the ones I had...I was told by a former Fordbarner that Drake was going to start reproducing them or I would not have sold the ones I had. To the best of my knowledge, Drake never made any.

The '38 and '39 outer rims are the same. The centers of the two grills are totally different so the center trims do not interchange.

I have a '39 grill on my '38 truck and have trim for both '38 and '39 but mine like so many others are beat up.

Hi Bill,

Looks like you could use the outer trim ring (if you are interested) and Kevin could use the centre strip if he is interested.

I am in need of some parts for my truck, maybe we could work something out.

I think that looks great, and only the most knowledgeable Ford enthusiasts would be able to know it wasn't factory. You're my kind of guy!
