Default Horn stops working

My horn will turn with no pressure on the diagram. But when I start to adjust it for the sound. ( a click at a time) when it starts to put pressure ( very little )on the diagram the arbor stops turning . With no pressure it spins fast and free. Any ideas , (it's an Ames horn) Miff

Also, if it hasn't been lightly oiled it may need the two-three drops on the felt pad

I've cleaned commutators with emery cloth while the armature spins. Between that and a few drops of oil on the felts, the horn blows great.

Yup a good cleaning, inspection of the brushes, movement of the brushes in the holders, and lubing the front and rear of the shaft are in order.

That's good it's working. Another maintenance area is the bullet connections and clips not clean enough. I also found a brush not in position correctly, yet still partially working.
