Exclamation is this an OE early fomoco part/setup?

Saw this on a flathead for sale, caught my attention, is this a real early ford setup?

I don't know if that was available, or a one off home made deal.
Looks like an attempt at crankcse ventilation without a PCV valve.

My thoughts exactly, in my case I get a good bit of oil smoke and that would be ideal...

Period aftermarket accessory breather sometimes just routed down under the engine and not into the air cleaner. Regards, Kevin.

There's a valid safety reason for PCV valves, absent from this engine.

Do you mean as in a backfire causing an increase in oil pan capacity?

I was lucky as a kid to witness a crankcase explosion. A car was climbing the hill in front of my Uncle's Gulf station.
There was a loud BOOOM and the car had a rainstorm of oil and smoke beneath it. Naturally it was towed away.

No, it is not Ford OEM.

Perhaps a later version of the one that just hung down in the rear of the engine.
Really had nothing to do with 'emissions control' but had to do with the blow-by stink.
Could be purchased at stores like J C Whitney etc.

Those breather tube filler caps were used on a lot of model As and may still be available. It was always an aftermarket item but I've never seen it used that way.

They Old Man had a 62 Falcon with blow by so bad that he put a piece of heater hose from the breather pipe to the air cleaner intake. Worked for him.
