Default Shock Absorbers

What constitutes rebuildable for shocks? Mine are hopelessly frozen and the arms will not budge no matter what. (soak in penetrating oil, hit with small sledge hammer etc.) I am guessing they are not rebuildable. Since new ones are so expensive I am hoping to stumble on a used set with out frozen arms and save a little money by having them rebuilt. Does not rusted solid generally mean rebuildable? I do not wish to convert to modern tubular shocks.
Thanks

Give John a call. He is an excellent shock rebuilder. He may also have some shocks for sale.

This previous thread is a good read. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...=Shock+rebuild

Most of the times if they are froze they are junk.

an interesting thread I found on the net- describes "bbqing" your shocks and then dipping them in cold water to free them up.

made a lot of sense and seemed quite easy.

Over in the UK I've been testing a newly design shock absorber that will be available soon. Bolts on like a stock shock - but works...

Rebuilding these shocks is a specialty task. I had a set of John Holland rebuilds on my 30 pickup, and they were great. I suggest you contact him.

BTW, I put new Stipes on my coupe six years ago, and they work and are adjustable just like originals. $1200, but worth it. I will never have to replace them.
