Default '34 tail pipe question

I understand the '34 tail pipe is in 2 sections. Can anyone tell me if the long section goes from the muffler to the short section or is it vice versa? I have a new long section that I got with some parts that I bought but am missing the short piece. Just trying to figure out what goes where. Thanks, Doug.

Long piece goes from the muffler back and the short piece from the long piece out the rear of the car.

Thanks rbone I appreciate the info. I had to re-position the rear cross member and now realize that the tail pipe was 'Gerry-rigged' so I have no clue about the correct configuration. they had it going under the rear cross member but it appears from photos in the 33/34 book that it's supposed to go through the big hole in the cross member. Is that right or should it go under?
Thanks, Doug.

Should go into the hole in the front of the rear cross member and come out the bottom of the cross member ,there is a recess in the rear of the rear cross member for it.

That would help a lot, Lawrie. The pics I've found on-line and in the 33/34 book are not very clear. Thank you, Doug.

Thanks Lawrie, that gives me a better idea of how it goes. Looks like the short piece is connected to the longer piece up in the cross member?
