Default starter solinoid

Question, I mounted a starter Solinoid on the firewall with two sheet metal screws. Does it require a clean metal surface for a ground? Thanks Stan

Normally any (if) needed ground will occur between the screws and the bare metal solenoid case.
After installation check continuity between solenoid case and engine.

Depends on what solenoid you are using. The original Ford solenoid grounded
through the start button and does not require a grounded base.

No, it does not.

BUT.....the starter button on the instrument panel DOES require a good bonding (GROUND) to the instrument panel (or chassis ground) itself! That Kube guy in the post just above has been known to solder a separate (hidden) ground wire to his starter buttons. DD
