Default Main wiring harness questions

I need to replace the wiring in my 31 Town sedan.

I have the current wiring out of the car, have the Dan that was on the end of the stearing column off, and need to remove the old connector. Is it suposed to just pull out?

Also. I purchase my A parts from Snyders but they do not list a complete kit like Macks, and I can't find all the parts. Macks has a somewhat poor reputation. Any suggestions?

I don't know what a "Dan" is, but for reportedly the best wiring setups, call Sacramento Vintage Ford and describe your needs.

Many people run off at the mouth about Macs with no first hand experience. I have had great luck with them. Call Snyders and ask about the remainder of the parts needed.Wayne.

The bottom half of the light switch cover unclips and (on my car) has a simple bayonet fitting then the top part slides off.

I have the switch assembly thingy off the car and the cover off.
Just need to know how to remove the contact plate and wires without breaking something.

Contact plate is soldered to the wire harness. Wire harness is threaded thru the can. See if you can locate some local help to walk you thru this. You are in for a learning experience.

There is a little horse-shoe shaped retainer holding the assembly. Have someone hold the horn button, push up against the spring and remove the retainer.

The suppliers sell a tool that helps during the re-install.

The contact plate is just pushed up into the switch itself. It will pull right out with just a little wiggling.Look at the new one,you will see how it is made.I was just over your way,but it is way too hot to be riding around in my black roadster today.I turned around at the end of 87 and came straight back to Epping.

each "A" has an attitude
learning curve been there done that
have to keep the suppliers in business
another one is "keep working on it till it breaks"
It has been phrased different ways but it all means the same..............

Thanks Keith and all.

I got it apart.
It was more like an interference fit, so I had to use some persuasion.
The persuasion was limited to a small hammer so things were not damaged.

Keith - I know what you mean about the heat.
I considered putting the spare air conditioner in the garage window.
But got sidetracked by a cold beer in the cool house.

If you are intending to install a new prebuilt wiring harness, be sure to solder each bullet end. They will come off at a time when it is not the thing to do. Been there and done that also.
