Now that the 28 Tudor has found a good home, (BTW Jim, the left rear axle nut is about a turn loose) we have to solve the steering wheel mystery.

What is up with the backwards rim? Is the mold 2 pieces (spokes and rim) and someone put the rim part upside down?

Put it on ebay as a rare part and sell it for $3500.

That steering wheel shows the philosophy of the Ford factory. So what if the finger notches are on top. So what if it might be more uncomfortable to drive. So what if your hands glide along those bumps with every turn. Put those steering wheels on cars and get those cars out the doors.

Actually, now that I think of it, this particular Tudor would have the "red" steering wheel on its way out of the factory. This steering wheel didn't come with the car. What would its story be?

Is it a factory made steering wheel or a reproduction? If the mold is in two pieces like Tom suggests is it a Monday morning job? Actually Tom, I would think that the two mold pieces would actually be a top and a bottom. Therefore the mold was made wrong.

I'd LOVE to get my hands on a Tudor, or a Fordor..
Anyone want to swap for a 29 CCPU??

Maybe some one riveted the wheel ass'y on the hub up side down. Or they bolted it on.

After reading this thread and replying a few times what is the thinking towards the Fordor, it seems this style is not as desirable as the Tudor. Here are a few more ad's from this area.

Jimmy a four door is a good car to have to take the family out for drive. But growing up I had do not buy a four door drilled into my head. This came from someone that was allways buying and selling. The fact is that most people want two doors on their car and that's it. And they sell much easier. I would be willing to bet that there are much less four door a's out there. I have had the chance to buy a pretty nice original town sedan. The guy has offered it to me a few times. I know I should buy it. And probably will one day. When I get over my thoughts on four doors.

Actually, the Fordor seems to be more desirable than a tudor (at least around here). People find it easier to take friends along in a Fordor, and also for trips to the grocery store, etc. Having better access to the rear seats is a plus. Also, some people prefer the bench seat in the front of a Fordor over the folding bucket seats in the front of a Tudor.

However, there is a potential downside to the Fordors- Except for the slant windshield cars, the Fordors are basically made of wood. Yep, that's right- the body structure is wood. All the metal you see is just sheets covering the structure, they add little structural support. A Fordor could (in theory) rot away and fall apart.

The Tudor structure is metal, and wood is only used to attach things to (like interior panels). Other than the roof, a Tudor could have all its wood rot away and still hold its basic shape. Cannot say the same for a Fordor.

The slant windshield Fordors are all metal, even the floorboards are metal. The wood in a S/W is just to mount things to, same as a Tudor.

The good news is, after replacing the wood, if you keep a Fordor out of the elements, that wood shouldn't be a problem.

The reason the steering wheel is upside down is that the owner was short and had trouble reaching.....

they told me so themselves.

But it's in the exact same location, as you can see the curvature of the spokes is correct, but the outside rim ONLY is reversed.

OK then-they straddled the steering column backwards, gazing out the rear window for stunt driving.....

This car is worth millions as it is a one of a kind design that Ford built, this is a very rare car and would almost be impossible to duplicate

If it was flipped over maybe, but can the steering wheel hub even be mounted from either direction?

Maybe the original family had really long fingers, note the claw marks around the door handle. Bob
