Default 29 gas tank

My 29 gas tank has paper thin threads on the fill tube. You can actually see light thru some of the threads. The rest of the tank is in great shape. What are my options? Anybody making a fill tube with the same threads to braze or otherwise attach. I would appreciate some advice. Thank you.

Was the tank dipped for cleaning? A guy in our club had his tank dipped and the fill pipe disappeared. I'll bet there are some rotted out tanks around to remove a fill neck from.

I remember seeing replacement threaded filler gas tank parts somewhere, but of course I can't remember where now. If you want to repair you tank, your best bet might be to find an unusable tank (rotted out on the bottom) and use it as a donor for the threaded neck. I think you would need to remove the tank from your car, empty the tank and fill it with something non-flammable to do any cutting or welding on it. The donor neck would probably need to be TIG welded. On the other hand, it would probably be easier to find a better tank for your car. Decent tanks can usually be found for $125 to $150. Since gas caps are vented (very small holes in the threaded area shouldn't hurt anything), if the cap doesn't fall off, you might be OK leaving it as is. Just my thoughts.

Does the cap stay on? Can you tighten it? Do you have a gasket in the cap? If you can tighten it and you have a gasket in the cap, I would not worry about it.

Thank you all for your replies. Yes the tank was redi-striped years ago and the tank fill tube is mostly gone. Yes it is soldered in. I still need to know if I can purchase a fill tube new or used to avoid making one from scratch. Can anybody help??

Try going to the HAMB want section. Many hot/street/rat rodders will remove that section of the gas tank and smooth over with a patch. You might get lucky in finding one. Depending on where you live there may be a street rod shop or club nearby that might be able to help you find one.
