Pickup springs
Have any of you pickup owners in FB-land modified your springs in any way to provide a better ride? I am thinking of things like removing leaves and adding Teflon strips to the springs.
Thanks! |

Re: Pickup springs
Just put about 4 sacks of cement back there, settles it down real good!
Do a search on here, Marco has a chart that tells all!

Re: Pickup springs
i removed the third leaf on my 31 narrow body. it helped a lot, but is still pretty stiff. the wide boxes are a lot heavier, and ride better as a result. oh, and it didn't lower the stance any.

Re: Pickup springs
Mine is a WB...still rides pretty rough. Of course it has all 10 leaves and no slippery stuff between them.

Re: Pickup springs
SLPreston53: I was thinking of doing the same thing to my 30 CCPU. Does anyone know the front and rear spring configuration for a roadster. I think that configuration would soften up the ride some.

Re: Pickup springs
Marco's Spring Chart can be seen at http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...t=spring+chart
The various lines are not identified, but intuitively you can see that the light green is your pickup. You may be able to subtract leaves to get other body options/vertical lines. The roadster (far left) seems to be a whole different spring than the pickup (far right) Joe K

Re: Pickup springs
I have a 1930 rpu I used a roadster rear spring, it sits good and really rides great for not having anything in the bed. I don't plan on hauling anything

Re: Pickup springs
My 31 wide bed had 11 leaves , I removed 3 and added the teflon a big difference . You can get the spring u bolt set for the spring mount from the parts dealer for the 8 leaf

There's a world of difference between a dry rusty spring and a blasted, painted, and greased spring. My 29 Tudor had everything dry when I bought it. Just squirting oil into the leaves made the ride so much nicer, it was like night and day. |

Re: Pickup springs
another club member took 3 leafs out of his closed cab pu and 5 out of his roadster pu. I pulled 3 from my 30 closed cab chassis makes a huge difference. took every other long leaf. painted between leafs with graphite paint.
