Roadster Door Handles, Different Lengths?
Are there different lengths of the square rod that inserts thru the door and latch assembly? The repro catalog lists the same part for 28-31.
I have 4 handles for my 31 Roadster that I have purchased. Two have longer shafts and fit pretty good but are maybe 1/4 inch too long. The other two have shorter shafts and just make it thru the door and come out flush with the door latch but the inner handles need some extension thru the latch to attach it to the square rod. I believe from the patina that all four are originals and not repros. Last edited by 53OlderThanMe; 11-15-2013 at 08:20 AM. |

Re: Roadster Door Handles, Different Lengths?
Later Ford open cars used the same handle with a longer shaft. The repro open car handles all have the longer shaft and must be shortened when used on the model A.

Re: Roadster Door Handles, Different Lengths?
Are Phaeton rear door handles different than the fronts, on any models ?
If so, that would explain, you having two different length originals. MIKE |

Re: Roadster Door Handles, Different Lengths?
If I'm understanding your post correctly, the nickel plated handles are too short? The length of the exposed shaft should be 2-5/16". If it's shorter then they've been altered.
As noted, Ford made similar handles for later models. They were stainless clad like '30-31 handles and I assume the '32 and later versions were all longer.

Re: Roadster Door Handles, Different Lengths?
Ok, how so, they look like 30-31 open car handles to me. Bob
