Something to remember
I have 5 model A's and one that gave me troubles till I came up with a plan. This one always had fine metal particles in the gas tank or another words rust that some how got through the finger filter in the shout off valve and made it's way to the carb and caused more trouble there. After stopping and blowing back through the gas line every 100 miles I found a real strong magnet about an inch square and drilled and tapped it for a real small "I" bolt. With the "I" bolt I can hook it in and out of the tank and clean the rust off and put it back. This has worked 3 years for me with out cleaning but one time. It was completely covered with rust but had not given trouble at that point. It's been 2 years since I cleaned last and I better have another look.

Re: Something to remember
I would think sticking to the gas guage rod might be problamatic also.

Re: Something to remember
There was a thread years ago about sticking a strong magnet on the outside
of the gas tank by the shut off valve and it would draw the rust to that location. Bob |

I think I will use one as you suggest. Maybe drop one in the glass filter bowl also. Thanks for sharing. Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 03-08-2018 at 04:35 PM. |

Re: Something to remember
I'v e done as you say but found that the magnet didn't stop everything. After clogging a couple of those modern plastic in line filters, I bit the bullet and sealed the tank. No trouble in the 12 years and 40,000 miles since. It's a PITA to do but being stopped on the side of the road who knows where is worse.

Re: Something to remember
I've got a couple of Neodymium magnets stuck under the tank near the fuel valve. They grab an awful lot of that stuff. I recently also added a WIX filter in the fuel bowl.
Between the two I haven't had any trouble in quite a while. Ken

Captain Kirk was looking for some of those Neo&#@*dymium mangets so Scotty could fix the flux capacitor.

Re: Something to remember
I guess I didn't spell it out right about the "I" bolt. Alright I hook the magnet out with a coat hanger that I made into a hook and fish for the the "EYE" bolt and bring everything that sticks to it out. Then clean it and put it back in the tank. May not work for everyone but it works for me.

Re: Something to remember
I use a magnet that turns on heart pacemakers. Strongest magnet I have ever seen. I too use the wix filter.
