Default 31 rdster carb results

Ok so here is where I stand, after many tries with shims and slight bending of the float [ to keep the 5/8 in. float height ] I was able to stop the leak. I used the site tube with a 5/8 mark on it from the gasket between the 2 halves,as suggested. now when I started the engine I was getting a popping from the carb, from what I ' ve read that means the gas level in the carb is too low?? so now what do I start removing shims from under the seat?? and start over? please advise . thanks THE HOOCH

You should not bend the float if possible, also jets need to be flow tested as the repo have a dome head and they need to be concave which prevents leaking. should only be 1 maybe two nylon washers under float valve.
