Default Ford Tri-Motor planes

Ok, not quite a Model A topic, but I was fortunate to have the opportunity to fly on a 1928 Ford Trimotor airliner, that is one of just eight still qualified to fly. There were only 199 made, but they have a rich history. Maybe there is one coming to your area. Here's a site you can check out to get started. They were made all during the Model A period, and our club had a photo op as well as the Model T club.

Yep, the Tri Motor is one nice plane. If it comes to an airport near you, don't pass up the chance for a ride. Your ticket is what helps to keep them flying.

Just hard for me to see a flathead car engine and a radial aircraft engine being manufactured by the same people at the same time.

Curtis - Wright built the engines.

The Tri-Motor engines were made by Pratt & Whitney or Wright, can't remember which, but not by Ford.

Aeronca tried in the 40's with a little 2 cylinder. Honda went ground up with a small biz. jet and engines of their own design. It appears to be a real winner - time will tell.

I rode in the co pilot's seat, and I didn't think it was loud.

The one I was in is a 5-AT-B Pratt-Whitney Wasp 420hp; three of them. They varied as he built them... as usual.

Eric, they ARE loud! once they start revving up on the runway and get into the air, you need to talk loudly (not really yell) to be heard, so everyone just sits back and enjoys the experience for 20 min. Mine was $75 and well worth the fun.

Tom, I was content to be in the rear seat; best window view, 'cept I'm sure the co-pilot seat was the best view of all. I have an issue with vertigo so I didn't dare get the co-pilot seat. Did he let you fiddle with the controls?

BTW, it takes off and flies at 98 mph and about 1000 ft. Stall speed is an amazing 56mph! This is tame. DO IT IF YOU CAN.
