Halogen bulbs
I have been experimenting with different type of headlight bulbs. I have tried the 6V 35/35W Halogen bulbs but they were not as bright as I would like. I bought a pair of 60/55W quartz bulbs. I did not want to modify my brand new $100 pair of reflectors. So I stripped the bulbs of all of the extra metal and made custom sockets that fit into the stock reflectors. Here is a picture comparing the 35/35W Halogens and the 60/55W quartz bulbs. The quartz is a bright white and the Halogen is a bit less bright orange. Yes the focus it not quite right but the difference is even greater in person. I do drive at night so good lighting is VERY important to me.

Re: Halogen bulbs
Hi Bob,
Which bulb did you buy and what all did you have to do for mods? Any electrical upgrades? Mike

Re: Halogen bulbs
What brand bulbs are you using I have looked at several "brands" of 35-35 bulbs and they are not the same---some look very crude and crooked inside, and putting several of the same bulbs side by side it is easy to see each one has different filament placement
focus is more important than bright for long distance light, are the higher wattage bulbs H4 with front---back filament placement, or side by side like original I am quite happy with the 35-35 that I replaced the 50 cp bulbs with, the halogen bulbs allowed me to cut the charge rate on the generator that was needed to make the 50cp bright |

Re: Halogen bulbs
The quartz bulbs each draw 10 amps. I have an alternator so power is not a problem. They are the front/back style filament type. Focus is an issue with the front back arrangement. However I was able to get a decent focus for both low and high beam. Here are pictures of the two bulbs. The price difference was also large. The 35/35W halogens were $27 each. The quartz were $7.50 each.
