Emergency brake handle
Did the Model A come with any type of boot for the emergency brake handle. I can't seem to find any in some of the catalogs ?

Re: Emergency brake handle
No, I don't think it did. Although some one makes on for it. Same goes for the shifter as well.

Re: Emergency brake handle
A few years ago while lining up for a tour at the national meet, one guy was frantically trying to release his parking brake. I ran over to help, but I couldn't get it to release either. I then lifted the floor mat to see what the problem was, and found his repro metal plate around the added rubber boot had jammed in the ratchet mechanism. I used a screwdrive to unjam it, and he make the tour, but this is something to watch out for.

Re: Emergency brake handle
I have one on my '28 roadster pickup with the pistol grip handle . The hole is not large enough to go over the pistol grip so I slit it far enough to slide over then put a small, black zip tie on right under the upper lip to hold it together.

Re: Emergency brake handle
I just cut the upper lip off. You can't tell it's missing.

Re: Emergency brake handle
Both were on my Town Sedan when I bought it. I had to 'modify' the brake S/S trim plate to fit tho. Not enough space between the shifter and brake for both to fit as sold by vendors. My car also has the split floor board kit so it is easy to access the battery without hassling with the boots or carpet.

Hm, that guy should have put you in for a 'national meet' commendation for BEST emergency response and assistance guy at the meet ! I've been considering installing these boots...to keep from being 'fume-a-gated' when driving my A ! I like the aroma that one attains after driving an A for a long while, but must leave my 'driving clothes' on the washer when finished Hey, do you suppose that that is why you see guys in long white coats when driving old cars ..with no boots Last edited by hardtimes; 09-16-2014 at 03:03 PM. _____________________ "Split floor board kit" ? Can you tell us a little more about this? I am not familiar with kit. I have not seen such a "Split Floor Board Kit" in any othe the Model A supplier catalogs or online. I have seen the kit (not a split floor board) that does allow easy removal / installation of the battery, by having a bigger hole (with accompanying metal cover) cut into the floor board. Is this what you are referring to ? - Doug Vieyra |

Re: Emergency brake handle
Good Morning Doug. Sorry I'm new to Model A's. My terminology may be incorrect. It's called a "Floor Board Removal Plate" at Snyder's (says it's new). It allows you to remove the drivers side floor board and leave the passenger side in place, which also leaves the boots undisturbed.

Re: Emergency brake handle
Soak the boot in hot water and you can slide it over the PARKING brake handle without tearing it or having to cut it. A little WD-40 helps, too.

Re: Emergency brake handle
Y.,
I like your "split" carpet also. Can you post a picture of your entire front carpet area? I have thought about doing something like this, but I have not seen it before. Did you invent this or buy the completed set-up? I am interested in doing something similar with a rubber mat, not carpet. Every time I take the rubber mat out to change the battery or do any work under the floorboard, I risk ripping the rubber mat. W. Michael |

Re: Emergency brake handle
Hi W.
Actually nothing special. Just carpeted floor with matching carpet mats. First picture with both mats, second with PS mat removed. |

Y,
Thank you. It's not exactly what I thought you had done, but it looks very nice. I appreciate your taking the time to make and post the pictures. W. Michael |
