A friend is restoring a Graham Paige. Does anyone have an idea of a source for restoration parts?

This one a shot in the dark. Can you provide more specifics? Year, model, pix. Your needs?

We ALWAYS like pix of old cars. And the more disreputable the better.

Someone may have remains he can't identify - remains that put in your hands might help you out.

Unfortunately for you, when Henry Ford and Edison went camping - and Ford went off to inspect the junkyards for end of life Ford products, I imagine he might have been looking at a fair number of G-Ps. Although they were a high quality car were they not?

Anyway, good luck with this - and a bump.

I think it was the "Cheaper By The Dozen" main character Frank B. Gilbreth who owned a G-P?

I have no pics. It is a 1929 612. I'm told that it is a solid body but in pieces. I'm not sure what parts other than a radiator he needs. He was asking me where he might find parts. I think that the restoration cost compared to the Model A will be prohibiting. I've suggested he sell it and get an A.

Owners club. Car in 1929 was offered both as a Phaeton and a Four Door. Possibly more options.

Heavy, expensive car.

That is why we have swap meets, people find car parts they think are for their Model A's and then find out they aren't. Restoration of that car will preserve another car for posterity.

Friend of mine has a 1921 Paige Phaeton [666] only 3 known left. A large beautiful car... Back brakes only is a lg. problem. Solid car and well built. Very nice lines for that year. Old restoration but still very nice.Bought it from another friend of mine in the .A.A.C.A club ..Car sold at that time [2000] for $25,000.00 .... 1929 is worth less if a 4 door ...Will cost you much more then a Ford "A". parts are semi hard to find ..Most Paige owners have more then 1 parts car... Guy in Vermont has 5 ...last i heard...Grandson of Paige still walks around Hershey Fall meet every year.Met him once.

I have seen a few Graham Paiges here in NZ, mostly '29 models ; 4dr Sedans, a few roadsters & one beautiful Briggs Coupe. There was a phaeton also. The 612 is about size of a Dodge DA or smaller Chrysler of the era & probably similar quality.Believe they had a 4 spd gearbox which was a big deal then.
Worth restoring if parts can be found. I would say joining an Owners Club of the make is a must.

I restored a 1946 Graham-Paige Rototiller some 30 years ago, and found a new parts source in Auburn, Indiana. Still using it to prepare the seedbed in my wife's garden every May.
I too have a "parts" Rototiller which could be rebuilt into a functioning unit.

Sid, Mike Keller of Appleton, Wi. wrote two books on the history of the Graham Bros. company. He is in the Wisconsin Chapter of Automotive Historians. He would know of many people who might be a source for GP parts. Good Luck.

Hi KR,

Do the books show all the Graham models or are they more a history of the company?
Are they still available?

Thanks,

Thanks for all the information. I will pass it onto him. I have a feeling it is more to restore then he bargained for. We will see.

The name Sidhartha is from the book Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. It is about a man who set out on a life long adventure to find his meaning of life. It just seemed to be appropriate for a name for using on the internet when I first started using it some 18 or so years ago. It is misspelled because even then it had been used already!

I live in Indiana and it is a pretty good drive to Auburn from me but I like to go to the museum there. It is a nice day trip. I'll try to post a picture later of my 31 A on the trailer parked in front of the museum. We stopped there on the way home after picking it up in Michigan.

Manuel, I believe all the models are discussed as it is a very concise history of the company. If you want Mike Keller's contact info I will give it to you. I believe the books are still in print.

A Graham would be considered an "orphan" car, meaning you are not going to get parts for it. That is why there are machinists, bodymen and fat check books. Unless you are extremely handy, that car will cost more to redo then it will be worth in the end.
Quite frankly, that is why I like the A's so much. Availability of everything.
I gave up on a 25 Hudson once for the very same reason-couldn't get parts....

I'm in the same boat Sid.Recently,I was offered an incomplete 37 Cord for free. I saw it around 25 years ago but didn't pay much attention as to what was missing.So...What to do? It would cost a small fortune to restore it and risk being called a fool for putting a $100 saddle on a $50 horse.Or...street rod it and get bitch slapped by the Cord guys.I need another car like a hole in the head but whoever dies with the most toys wins. Right?

Could he modify an old model A radiator to fit? i did things like that to my other old cars because nothing else was available.

Same deal, in america restoration means identical to new where in other places you make it look like the original but nobody minds too much if it has an engine from a more common similar car of the same era.

I have been online Pete. But I am a bit old fashioned and would like to read a good old fashioned hard copy book about them!!
Provided it is in my price range.

Cheers,
